On coffee

I had one. Coffee. Black. No sugar, no cream. Thus, black. As I said. I already said that. Didn't need to specify. But I might as well. People are stupid. Common educational tool. Repetition. I had coffee. Black.

Listen. How I take my coffee doesn't matter. Besides, I change my mind about it. Frequently. I once stopped visiting a coffee shop because the guy figured out my "regular". I don't do regular. I do random.

What matters, then, is that I had coffee. Of some kind. Black, we've established that now. But the type of coffee is less relevant than the fact that there was coffee. That I had. Drank, even. You don't just "have" coffee. You drink it. It's not an asset to keep for the future. Unless we're talking about coffee plantations, or stocks, or something. But we're not. Especially not "something". I'm very specific, down-to-earth, concrete, about this. "Concrete" as in opposed to "abstract", not "concrete" as in the construction material. Abstract concrete.

It was a cup of coffee. Black, as I've now stated so many times it seems to hold more significance than I intended. I didn't intend the type of coffee to be significant at all. Only that it was concrete. Not abstract. And not a plantation. Not stocks. Plain, old coffee. That you drink. Or, rather, I drank it. I had it, then I drank it.

Now I don't have it anymore.

On true happiness

Not that I have too much time for anything like this. If I could choose, I probably would spend about an hour each morning like this - on Starbucks, with my Kindle (product placement, much? *snort*), having a relaxing start of my day. But alas, my mornings tend to be far more stressful than that. I frequently sleep too little (especially in Tokyo), so I get up too late. I run to the shower, try to make time for both breakfast and basic make-up, and then I'm off to work. I can only dream of having the time to pick up a coffee most days, little less sit down to drink it.

In a perfect world I would have that kind of time. Or I would make that kind of time. But then... If this was my daily routine, perhaps I wouldn't appreciate it as much..?

On mug shots*

I was going to write a "I don't really have anything to write about today"-post, but then I realized that I do have something to write about. See, I think there are still one or two of you out there who don't know I am nuts. It is time to change that. I hereby present you my collection of coffee mugs:

The Twins. These were actually given to me by two different people on different occasions. My giraffability is well-known!

The Secretive. It's got a LID!!! How awesome is that?

The Pretty Giraffe. No caption needed.

The Silly Giraffe. Still no caption needed...

The GIANTS. It might not be apparent from the picture, but these two are about twice as large as the rest of my mugs.

The Welsh. This one I got from my friend Tara when we met for the first time in person, two years ago.

Tara's mug has more than one side to it, of course ;)

There. If I haven't convinced you I am nuts by now ("Hey, I post pictures of my cat. Why can't she post pictures of her mugs?"), I'll probably never succeed. There are a few that didn't make it into this blog because I don't have them nearby (one of my current favourites - "Fruits and Nuts in History" - lives at the university). Maybe I can make a "On mugs part two" post sometime in the future?

The only lucid thing I wanted to include in today's post will have to come at the end of my insanity. Please make sure to check out this week's drabble challenge over at the Burrow Blog. Unless you're reading this unreasonably late, there is still time to let the creative juices flow and write down a 100 word long story for us. Who knows, YOU might be our next winner! (I promise there will be no commemorative aming the prizes...)

*For those who are confused because this post used to have another title, I feel I should clarify. I changed it after my blog buddy Boonsong made a most excellent comment (see comment section below) that made me realize I had not exhausted the title potential of this post. Amends have now been made.
