On stuffophilia

So, it's one of those days...

Zombie White (and no Huntsman)

I *really* want these origami speakers. In addition to being awesome in the capacity of being ORIGAMI SPEAKERS (!), they also sound pretty cool sound-wise. Want.

(Also, from this fabulously awesome site I might be addicted to now ((designfetish.org)), it is worth checking out the posts about people as pixels, the Pixar minimalistic poster series, and not to mention Zombie Attack Barbie. Once she's through with Ken, she can have a go at Snow White...)

I don't really believe the following really happened, but that's sort of the point, isn't it...

(I wish it were true, though. Bill Murray FTW)

I have inherited from my grandfather a clock (of the mantel variety) that require a deposit of 1 krone (though unfortunately not the currently used version) per week to power it, like a savings arrangement. I don't have a picture or link, but I felt the mentioning of it belonged in this post.

*snort*

I know someone whose potential wedding cake should look like this, but I am not going to tell him because I don't want him to think I am making suggestions... (You know who you are and if you are reading this: I am not. Making suggestions. I am reading it. After having written it. Checking for typoes. Probably missing a few.)

Also, I looked up "who's" versus "whose" for the umpteenth time. And now I looked up umpteenth... Gah.

Aaaaand one more posting from designfetish(I think I might have one, yes).org:

It's a GUMMY BEAR DRESS!!! OMD - could I pull it off? Probably not, but I could eat it off! Ha! I made a funny!

And now I need to get off the internet, or at the very least go back to Facebook lurking. Laters, taters!

On... well, that's what I need help to find out

When I embarked upon the journey that is NaBloWriMo, I complained about how I'd survive blogging every day for a month in the middle of thesisfinishmaniastressery. My friend Natasha suggested that I'd simply post a giraffe every day (which would also reverse the dropping giraffability of this blog, by the way). It's true, I probably could keep this blog alive by merely posting giraffes I own (or have drawn. Or not drawn). It's become quite the collection over the years (the drawings having experienced something of a peak during the project onemilliongiraffes.com). If I restricted myself to one per day, I reckon I'd manage to continue this blog on an entire giraffe-related basis for at least a year.

Don't worry. I won't do that.

But I thought I'd use Natasha's tip in a pinch this month, since I am in a permanent state of breakdownability (no words are as awesome as those with -ability at the end!) because of the thesisfinishmaniastressery (notice no -ability at the end of that one). So I went to see if there were any particular giraffes I felt like sharing, and then I came across one I drew this summer.

The Giraffy Higness What's His Name
I'd tell you the proper name of this spotty (and slightly arrogant, by the look of him) dude, but I have no idea. He came out of nowhere, he has no story, no name, and no identity (so I've no idea why he looks so smug). He reminds me of a cartoon character, I think, but other than that I can't say what his purpose in this world is. So, I'd like some help from you guys.

What's this giraffe called?
Why does he have blue eyes?
What is his story?
And who in the world is his dentist? (I'd really like teeth as white as that)

On Burrow Blogging

Er… What are you guys doing here? Don’t you know that today is the big launch of the Burrow Blog? “What is a Burrow Blog?” you say..? Really? You didn’t know? Oh, BOY, do you need some education!

The Burrow is my writing group. I have been talking about this before. You don’t remember?!? But... b-but I put up a link and everything… What was that about you not remembering every detail about all the 45,783 blogs you are following? Hrmf!

Anyway, the Burrow, my writing group (the awesomest bunch of people there is, we have been told. [All right, this may or may not have been something we tell ourselves, but that counts, right..?]) is starting a brand new, sparkly (but not in the creepy, vampire way) BLOG! (And there was MUCH rejoicing!)

I get it, I get it. I may be slightly more enthusiastic about this than you guys. But seriously, you should check it out, since it is going to be splendiferic! Fantabuldashering! Glorificatastiousest!

You’re still not leaving? What do you people want from me? A proper blog post? But I TOLD YOU this could be found at the Burrow Blog! It’s a pretty awesome post too, written by the even awesomer Watery Tart (which you all should know and love – and if you don’t it is no fault of mine, since I have been linking to her three posts in a row now…). Seriously, go check it out!

No? You are really not going to leave before I finish this post, are you? Oh, very well… What shall I offer as a get the hing out of here goodbye present? Hm… Do you all remember Bertram? Of course you don’t – he hasn’t made an appearance on this blog since I had about 5 followers. So no, most of you don’t remember him. Well, maybe it is time to reintroduce the one and only - Bertram:

NOW go check out the new Burrow Blog (or I will throw more terrible cartoons in your general direction)!

(Hm... Did I remember to include the link? Ah, yes, I think I did....)

(And please return here tomorrow, when I swear I will have a proper blog post up again...)

(Yes, I will stop with the parentheses now...)

On having the jitters

So far I’ve spent all my US time on the East Coast. That is about to change as I head west today. By the time this is posted I’m hopefully all packed, and getting ready to go. I’m both excited and nervous – the first will be evident in my blog posts tomorrow and Tuesday, while the second you can read all about on Monday.

Today, however, I’m cutting the blog short. All you get is another one of my lousy cartoons…

On having a bad case of the weekend

I've done nothing this weekend. Well, technically, I've been house- and dog- (and cat-) watching, but since that requires no more work than to let the dogs in and out plus to fill a few bowls of food every now and then, there is really no excuse why I've had such a lazy weekend. Then again, this was my treat after having put down some serious work at the archive last week, and planning to put down more at the office (if I remember where it is) the upcoming week. Looking at it that way, it's only fair that I got the weekend off.

However, again this means that all the attention the poor blog gets is another lousy cartoon. Oh, well... I have been spoiling it...

On being back from Boston

After an amazing week of more or less non-blogging due to more important events - you'll hear all about it tomorrow and the next day and the next day (I've got weeks worth of blog material now...) - I find that I have learned a few things:
1) I missed the routine. The regularity of writing a little every day (which I incidentally still did, but mostly longhand - spent a while searching all the bookshops in both DC and Boston trying to find the "perfect" notebook) really has become something I can do, want to do and intend to continue. I also missed the blogging "community", which means that in the future I will strive to plan ahead and blog also while away.

2) It felt good to be away. (I know, Queen of Contradictions...) But the reason it felt good to be away was a) that at this point it is nice to have confirmation that I am not as addicted to my online time as I think I am, and b) because of the lessons learned (jump back to 1 if you missed this point).

3) There are people out there more random than me. I strive to make it otherwise. (You know who you are, "Socks"...)

4) Finally, there is no point in trying to make sense in a blog when you have just crossed 9 states. Write some rubbish, post up a cartoon, and pretend it's a real post. Save the good stuff for later.

Currently reading: *just* finished Persuasion by Jane Austen (my very first Austen, but don't tell anybody), still working on Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks (which is the first non-Middle East non-fiction I've read in a looooong time)
Currently listening to: We Shoot the Moon - Fear and Love (I randomly picked up this CD in Boston. Google the cover and you shall find out why...)
