On X

As regular followers will know, I am participating in the Burrow's "A-Z Drabble Feature" this month. We're reaching the end of the month, and today will be my last slot.

Mathematics
They had nothing in common except her. Xavier was a piano playing barrister with a taste for French wines. Xander, the ship captain, had four gold teeth and a pet monkey. Xenon was a beast on the rugby field, but otherwise a mellow fellow.

When asked how it could be that all her former boyfriends had names starting with X, Yvonne smiled mysteriously. It was between her and her x-men that a tattoo on her lower back predicted that X+Y=Z. She had always wanted a baby girl named Zoë. All she needed to solve the equation was to find X.

The above image is made by Peter Valberg, and it can be accessed in Wikimedia Commons. For the record I don't love math, but I acknowledge its importance...

What a cute little piece. I love how you have the short work from two POV... very nice.

Jan - ...or just weird?

Clarissa - thank you. I'm going to pretend that the double POV was entirely on purpose and not something I didn't notice until you pointed it out... I thought I was POV-aware, but seeing as I managed to mess it up (though according to you in a good way) in just 100 words, I clearly have some learning to do...

Wow, that was really a creative way of using the last letters of the alphabet for your story.

I found it rather intriguing that all of Yvonne's ex-men had all letters starting with the letter "X."

Cool post and as I say, write on!

P.S. Thank you for commenting on my latest post, I responded back so check that out when you can!

Amanda - thanks :)

Jemi - if only real love was that easy, eh?

Michelle - thank you :)

Jen - wow, thank you! (And likewise. I haven't had a chance to explore your blog properly yet, but so far it looks great)

Vatche - thank you. Right until the end I considered using "The X-men" as a title, but then I decided that might give too much away (and perhaps earn me a lawsuit? Hee hee...)
(And I saw your comment - nice touch about the writer's job as painting with words!)
