On digital reading

There are many opinions about the digital reading devices that have become the big opportunity and headache for the publishing industry and customers alike. Judging by it's name, the Kindle intends to start a fire, but it's popularity seems to spread like wildfire. We can only hope that book burning won't be the result.

I was skeptical at first, not listening to voices explaining digital reading was the future; that it was environmentally friendly; that it felt just like a book once you got reading. But then I caved. This Christmas, the Kindle was my only major wish, and I got it. I have so far been very happy with it, and I see no reason that would change.

I do, however, see some reasons why the Kindle might change me as a reader and a book buyer. In this age of digital reading, you might be interested to know what these reasons are too, but I am not going to let you in on it here, of course. I am being tricky again, leading you to think you will get a full post here while it is actually located over at Burrowers, Books and Balderdash, where I am this week's Reading Monday host. Join me there, and don't forget to let me know how you feel about digital reading - will you stick to paper or has technology lured you into its seductive claws?

Still not sure about it myself. I have photo-sensitive epilepsy and have to limit my time on the computer, to read a book using a Kindle probably won't do me any favours. Right now, I much prefer paper and print. However, I remain open minded.

I have a Sony ereader and now an IPad. I can say that my book buying in both areas (print and ebook) has gone up. LOL
Although I find that buying an ebook is so darn easy and quick that I do tend look at the digital version first and compare prices before I buy. I'm also buying more cheaer novellas now for my reader, something I wouldn't/couldn't do before.

I'm still on the fence about the e-readers. I love my books and can't imagine not having them stacked on my shelves.

I have become a big fan of audiobooks. Then I can "read" while doing the dishes, painting the house and so on.

When it comes to real reading, I prefer books printed on old-fashioned paper. You can even read them on the plane during take off and landing >:D

I bought my husband a digital reader for his birthday. He made me return it. Now he's hemming and hawing over the ipad ... for its use as a digital reader. Hmmm....

I was Kindle-averse intially just b/c I'm a picture person. I LOVE book covers and I love being in bookstores and seeing the artistry. That's actually why I was more interested in the iPad... but who can afford that? ;p

Hubs got me a Kindle for Christmas, and I have to confess... I love it. :D But I do miss paper~

I have an ereader but I use it very sparingly. I stare at a computer all day so most days I need a break from digital. It is nice to have hundreds at my fingertips and definitely less space.

I bit the bullet and got a Kindle for Christmas. I like it so far, but will NEVER give up my REAL books! I like having the best of both worlds.

So far I'm holding out on digital reading. We bought my mom a Kindle for Christmas and she loves it. I like turning the pages. We'll see if I'm still turning pages by this Decemeber!

Now that I've started using the Kindle, it's hard for me to justify spending the money on expensive books. I don't mind reading on it either.
