On mug shots*

I was going to write a "I don't really have anything to write about today"-post, but then I realized that I do have something to write about. See, I think there are still one or two of you out there who don't know I am nuts. It is time to change that. I hereby present you my collection of coffee mugs:

The Twins. These were actually given to me by two different people on different occasions. My giraffability is well-known!

The Secretive. It's got a LID!!! How awesome is that?

The Pretty Giraffe. No caption needed.

The Silly Giraffe. Still no caption needed...

The GIANTS. It might not be apparent from the picture, but these two are about twice as large as the rest of my mugs.

The Welsh. This one I got from my friend Tara when we met for the first time in person, two years ago.

Tara's mug has more than one side to it, of course ;)

There. If I haven't convinced you I am nuts by now ("Hey, I post pictures of my cat. Why can't she post pictures of her mugs?"), I'll probably never succeed. There are a few that didn't make it into this blog because I don't have them nearby (one of my current favourites - "Fruits and Nuts in History" - lives at the university). Maybe I can make a "On mugs part two" post sometime in the future?

The only lucid thing I wanted to include in today's post will have to come at the end of my insanity. Please make sure to check out this week's drabble challenge over at the Burrow Blog. Unless you're reading this unreasonably late, there is still time to let the creative juices flow and write down a 100 word long story for us. Who knows, YOU might be our next winner! (I promise there will be no commemorative aming the prizes...)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*For those who are confused because this post used to have another title, I feel I should clarify. I changed it after my blog buddy Boonsong made a most excellent comment (see comment section below) that made me realize I had not exhausted the title potential of this post. Amends have now been made.
I have one with a lid! And a giant 'man mug'. It's so big that when I drink I can't see round it *hee* and the giraffe neck one is neat!
Love the mugs! I have some wacky ones too, including a crooked one with a picture of Edna Mode (from the Incredibles) on it (It's crooked on purpose). She represents my inner editor, what can I say...
You know, I thought about you while I was in Florida, I got to see real giraffes at a preserve- they were eating out of food put into the trees for them, they were adorable! Such long eyelashes, so cute as they slurped the branches in leaves and all.
I love the giraffe mugs!!!
I can't help think of that poor handle-giraffe's neck when you lift the cup to your mouth. Or maybe you use those cups for cold beverages and lift them from the bottom. Yes. Of course you do.
Yvonne - glad to spread my insanity ;)
Nicole - I love those giant mugs! The only downside is that my tea/coffee often is cold by the time I reach the bottom...
Bru - it always amuses me when people check back in here with "I saw a giraffe - thought of you!". Makes me appreciate how far we can truly reach through the blogger comminuty :)
Mark - oh, naturally I treat my mug giraffes in the nicest possible way. Every now and then I even remember to feed them. With tea leaves, naturally.
Thanks for the mug shots.
I like the pretty giraffe very much, but that's probably because I'm a pretty person.... (pretty verbose, pretty irritating, pretty good friend, etc).
The Silly Giraffe... words fail me... perhaps my verbosity is passing.
Another great post. You're a very talented blogette.
Take care. Have a nice day.
All the best, Boonsong
Wait....there's another Yvonne? Oh, no. Well, I love your mugs and a 100-word story sounds doable. (is that a word?)If I can write 55 flashes I can put two together....
I don't think you're nuts! Just giraffe obsessed!
Cruella Collett said...
Boonsong - ohmygreatdigression, I' can't BELIEVE I didn't see that wordplay before you just said it. I *need* to change the title of this blog post, ASAP. I'll credit it to you, of course!
You're pretty awesome ;)
Yvonne - there is! I've got multiple Yvonnes! Yay! And doable definitely SHOULD be a word if it isn't already. I use it all the time. Yay for doable drabbles!
Alex - the two go hand in hand, though... (But it's sweet of you to not think of me as nuts. Obsessed sounds much more mature!)
I love a good mug, when its filled with coffee it has the best weight and feeling in my hand. I dig the silly giraffe.
Hannah said...
I have a great many mugs as well! Don't you just love them?! But sadly, I break a lot of them so I'm always looking for nice big ones! The bigger the better.
Cruella Collett said...
Erinn - I alternate between favouring the weight of coffee and the weight of tea. Both are awesome.
Hannah - that is a problem. I haven't broken a mug in quite some time (not counting the one that broke the first time I poured hot tea into it, but I blame that on the manufacturer). Once I get a bigger appartment with bigger cupboards, I want bigger mugs!
Yay for mugs! I have tons as well, and I share them freely, except for my Eeyore mug and my Hogwarts mug. They are LARGE, they are COLOURFUL, and they are MINE. No touchy. ;-)
I think my vote goes to the silly giraffe out of your collection though. Mostly 'cause everybody needs silly in the morning, just to make it bearable (giraffable? *snort*).
Ah! I love the silly giraffe! That's too adorable. We're going to the zoo the next week, so maybe I can find something like that and be a little Cruella copy cat :)
Also, mugs with lids are the best. It frequently takes me about an hour to drink a mug of tea, which generally includes at least one trip to the microwave. I need to steal the mug+lid back from my mom :)
Leanne - the pretty giraffe one is actually that way for me. When I lived in a shared appartment we used each other's cutlery and stuff, but whenever someone took that mug, I got all cranky. So they eventually stopped ;) I love the silly giraffe too, but it's not as comfortable to hold as the rest, so I don't use it as often... *snorts at giraffable*
Rosie - yay for the zoo! I love zoo gift shops (actually, I love museum gift shops, but the zoo ones are pretty neat too). I could browse animal mugs, pencils, stuffed animals, games, and so on all day long. LOVE them!
And yay for being a copygiraffe! ;)
I love mugs! And those are awesome. I used to have quite a collection but I kept moving around. I don't know where any of them are now.
Cruella Collett said...
Clarissa - there is no convincing anyone of my madness, is there? Well, you're welcome for sharing, then ;)
Jemi - those two are probably the ones that are most comfortable to hold. So I love them too :)
Boonsong - I am pretty happy to hear that!
Leigh - what's not to love about them, right? They contain hot liquids, and they can be used to make a statement, such as "I am nuts and I love giraffes".
Jennee - oh, but then you can start a new collection! Or even just one. Everyone should have a favourite mug :)
Hart Johnson said...
Loved this! (and yes, Boonsong is Pretty Clever!)
I like the silly and pretty giraffes best, but I love that two different people bought you almost the exact same mug.
Making life giraffable... very nice.
Powdered Toast Man said...
I so want those giraffe mugs. Are they for sale at all? I will give you top dollar. Will you barter? I might have some giraffe stuff you want.
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those mugs are awesome, especially the giraffy ones!
Those are all great. I loved the giraffy ones and the one with the lid. That's an awesome collection.
Cruella Collett said...
Tami - I likie that concept - making life giraffable! Yay!
PTM - I believe we have settled this matter via email, but just in case. You can have visitation rights...
Amanda - I love those too :)
Mr. Stupid - the worst thing is, I'm not even trying to collect. They just keep finding me. Who am I to refuse?
Anonymous said...
But are you pretty smug?
I am - anagrammatically speaking...
All the best, Boonsong
The Secretive is especially interesting. I haven't collected things for years, but I could get into the mug idea, especially if I found one like that. Very nice photos. The giraffes are adorable.
I love your giraffe mugs, so cute...do you collect other giraffe items as well?! It use to be koalas for me, now I collect tins. Tea tins, candy tins, cookie tins, etc.
Cruella Collett said...
Boonsong - I see, you're also pretty clever! I'm always ssss-mug!
Patricia - thank you! It's not so much a conscious collection on my part, but people keep giving them to me (and every now and then I find one I *must* have).
Ellie - I love everything giraffe, and over the years it has turned into quite the collection. Everything from chopsticks to keychains ;) And I love tins! If I had a bigger kitchen, everything would be in tins! (I do have some lovely tea ones)
